Business Feature: Indulgence by Michelle in Brush, Colorado

1. Can you provide me with a description of your business?

Hi!  My name's Michelle and I'm the owner and creator of Indulgence by Michelle!  I've been asked many times how I got into making soap.  It's not your typical story and if you'd asked me if I ever thought I'd be owner of my own business I'd have said no way!  And I'd have been wrong!  Here's my story:

This whole crazy adventure started because of an post I saw on Facebook.  I was  just scrolling away and I came upon a tutorial on how to make soap. I thought it could be interesting and fun lets give it a shot.  So I bought my supplies to make melt and pour soaps and molds.  I made my first batch of soap and shared it with my friends.

Then a friend saw pictures of my soap and asked to order some from me.  I said sure and made her some soap.  She came back for more she loved it so much and that’s when I thought maybe I could sell them.  It took me almost nine months to really say YES I’m going to sell my soaps.  And in January of 2018 I officially started this adventure.

It’s been a learning experience, but so much fun.  I’ve had my fair share of failed batches, but I’ve learned from them.  And, now here I am with a webpage and great soaps to sell.  I absolutely love what I do.  What more could I ask for?

2. How long have you been in business?

I have been in business for one year now.

 3. What have you previously done and how does this business differ?

I spent many years in direct sales and now I do the volume of work I want to and it is for me.

4. What’s one thing you wish people knew about Small business owners?

Shop small, of course! And not just on Small Business Saturday, but every day that you can. Need milk, eggs, bread, or beer? Go to the local corner store instead – Say “hey” and get to know the owner who’s paying taxes to keep your neighborhood in tip-top shape.

5. Where do you see your business in the next year? In the next five years? The next ten years?

I see my business growing, adding more products and having a stronger online presence .  In 5 years I am hoping to have grown enough to have my own store.  I would like to add more vintage consignment pieces as well.  In 10 years I want to be maintaining all my hard work.

6. Whom do you seek advice from for your business? Or who inspires you?

I ask my friends, family, customers, and future customers.  My inspiration comes from places I visit and classes I take.

7. What is the biggest blessing of running your own business?

I put a smile on peoples faces every time they pick up their orders.

8. Favorite color?

Blue

9. Favorite snack/dessert?

10. And how would you describe your personality?
